There was no shortage of gold in 2019, so let’s take a look back at some of our (personal) favourites.

PARASITE

Talk about a film firing on all cylinders! Bong Joon-Ho’s ‘Parasite’ is a film that truly transcends genre. It’s a mysterious, thrilling, beautiful and surprisingly hilarious rollercoaster that’ll superglue your bum to the seat all the waythrough.

MONOS

Visceral, transportive and propulsive; Monos is one of the most intense and unique cinema experiences of the year. You’re going to want to have a long shower after this one!

JOKER

In a world where superhero films are dime a dozen, Todd Phillip’s ‘Joker’ is not only a breath of fresh air, but an artful character study that feels completely relevant. A tragedy with a twist.

MARRIAGE STORY

Drama without melodrama. The power of Noah Bombauch’s ‘Marriage Story’ is in its unflinching honesty. It’s brutal, messy, raw and saturated with subtext. This is a film that leaves a bruise.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

IS ABSOLUTELY BONKERS AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY EXCEPT THAT YOU MUST SEE IT AND YOU MUST SEE IT NOW GOOD SIR!

1917

A thrilling war film, an unbelievable technical achievement and one of the best in the genre.  Whilst other war films may have you watching safely from the stands, ‘1917’ throws you right in the mud of the trenches.

Honourable Mentions: Midsommar, The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,Little Women, Ad Astra, Ford V Ferrari
